DESCRIPTION

Last May, I sent out an e-mail to more than twenty international artists that I respected – both as artists and as friends, requesting them to send me a stone which was meaningful to them in some way. Most of the artists I found online through artmesh an artists’ networking site on which I would see artwork, browse the artist’s portfolio, and often leave comments and questions. In this way, I developed a large group of international contacts.

My next step was to create a stained wood panel on which I embedded the stone and then I painted a symbolic narrative about the artist(s).

Next, each artist sent me their representative artwork. This again leads back to why I know the artist– the strength of their work! A huge world map floating above the nineteen wood panel pieces will have strings which will lead the eye from the countries of origin of the stones and the artists down to their artwork. These will hang next to my wood panel depiction of who they are. Alongside that, their reason for choosing the stone they sent. In addition, I will have the geological significance of each stone printed below the artwork. Hopefully, this will visually close the circle of the Stone Project.
