Artist Talk: Karl Wirsum, A Career of Collaboration
For his lifelong career and commitment to the local artistic community, renowned artist Karl Wirsum is receiving the 2010 Ruth Horwich Award to a Famous Chicago Artist from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Named for Ruth Horwich, one of Chicago's most steadfast art supporters, this annual award recognizes the enduring career of an esteemed Chicago artist.
Panelists include: Karl Wirsum; James Yood (moderator), The School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Russell Bowman, Russell Bowman Art Advisory; Barbara Klawans, collector; Gladys Nilsson, artist; and Darrell Roberts, artist.
One of the members of the legendary Chicago group The Hairy Who, Wirsum has been featured in more than 150 solo and group exhibitions since the 1960s. His vivid, imaginative work can be found in dozens of corporate and museum collections throughout the United States and around the world. Wirsum received a BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, where he continues to teach and inspire today.
