DESCRIPTION

(Chicago, IL)… HungryMan Gallery, in the opening of our third season, presents the paintings of Timothy Bergstrom in his first solo exhibition, Design, Drama, and Discord. A recent MFA graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Bergstrom creates paintings that
mix cartoon figures, vernacular images and texts in a way that encourage the works’ dissonance. This intentional mix of low brow elements with traditional high painting
applications and expectations complicates the work and disrupts any easy interpretation. An exploration of materials has driven much of the development of his practice. Tension is created through his synthesis of various media and visual languages.

Timothy Bergstrom received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and pursued his undergraduate studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was featured and selected as a New Insight artist at Next Art Fair, part of Artropolis this past May in Chicago. His work is to be presented at Robert Bills Contemporary as well aspart of P.O.S. 3 at Western Exhibitions curated by Ryan Travis Christian, this fall.
