Egbert Baqué worked as a freelance author, translator, curator, and as a project manager in the field of international cultural exchange responsible for museum exhibits until the early 1990s. He founded his first gallery in 1991. From 1997 to 2005 he worked as the correspondent for a gallery in Paris, and in this capacity he prepared exhibitions with artists such as Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Helmut Middendorf, Norbert Bisky and Markus Oehlen. Since 2001 he has been active translating books and catalogue articles about Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Gustave Courbet, Yves Klein, Bettina Rheims, Jannis Kounellis, John Chamberlain and Louise Bourgeois among others.
In autumn 2005 he founded his new gallery in Berlin, Egbert Baqué Contemporary Art, which primarily exhibits painting and photography.
The gallery is located only a 5-minute-stroll from the main boulevard Kurfürstendamm along the Fasanenstrasse, just past the Literaturhaus Berlin and the fine art auction house Villa Grisebach, at the Fasanenplatz in the western center of Berlin.
