FANTOME / LEVIER / OBSTACLE
The French artist, Brice Guilbert, proposes to organise an exhibition of his recent works split up in three sections. It is all about the shape and space in the surroundings, in the inside of the drawing as well as about the relation between the representation of space in photography. Three different aspects of the work indicate where the artist stands in the process of his creation. A number of drawings depict the walkways, surfaces full of footprints and covered in dust. Making close reference to the oeuvre of Bruce Nauman, "Dance or exercise on the perimeter of a square" this is where the action is, the space framing the drawing, within the surface of expression.
These drawings realised on the recovered and framed ground impart an idea of a trajectory and of a path. A charcoal mural drawing complements the series, confirming that an entry is possible, beyond the surface. A video bearing the title "2011 / 2012" shows a series of photographs shot in during this time. In a type of documentary, the pictures recount a relation which the artist develops to himself and to his loved ones. This video acts as an extended view into the innermost.
