Seven days and seven nights of a road-trip through the USA in 2003: Large format projections of road movies referring to film history and clichéd images of America are juxtaposed with everyday conversations, radio news broadcasts and infra-red footage of motel rooms at night.
The Grand Canyon, drive-in cemeteries, the Las Vegas strip, news reports about the US led war on terror, a TV interview with Noam Chomsky, fast food restaurants, Monument Valley, gas stations and ever more war updates, are contrasted in oversized video images with audio recordings, printed floor texts and the faded infra-red videos of the snoring bodies of the artists. In an ironical reversal the American Dream becomes poetic reality.
The video installation will be supplemented by a Reading Room containing books and newspapers, which acts as a stimulus through associations reflecting the culture and landscape visited on this trip through the western United States. During the course of the exhibition, discussions and other related events will be taking place in the Reading Room.
A catalogue will be published in German and English.
