Beatriz Guzman Velasquez
Beatriz Guzmán Velásquez is a visual artist and poet working towards her Master of Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Painting and Drawing Department. Her work questions boundaries through the usage of ephemeral residue. Raised at the Texas-U.S. Southwest/Mexican border, her practice is informed by being in-between cultures, languages, and economies. She contributed to the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley as an organizer, curator, juror and presenter on border studies symposiums. Her work has been exhibited at the University of Texas- San Antonio, University of Houston, South Texas College, Chicago and Los Angeles. Her work forms part of the permanent collection of South Texas College and her poetry has been included in the New Border Voices: An Anthology published by Texas A & M.
