COOPER COLE is pleased to announce a solo show exhibiting work of American artist, Jen Stark.
Jen Stark's work is distinct and undeniably recognizable for its cyclical, colourful, op-art attributes. Stark fuels her craftsmanship with inspiration drawn from an interest in mathematics, natural organisms, and outer space. Optical illusions, colour gradations, and repetition play key roles in her sculptural works. The visual outcome is optically alluring and generates an ambiance of the surreal. These bold, colourful installations suggest a fantastical, psychedelic atmosphere and welcomes the viewer into the realm of Stark's imagination.
Jen Stark (b. 1983, Miami, FL) is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD, and Center for Art and Culture, Aix-en-Provence, France. Her work can be found in the permanent collection at The Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC and has exhibited at the Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield, MA, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, Sonoma, CA; Naples Museum of Art, Naples, FL; Frost Art Museum, Miami, FL: Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, FL and the Museum of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, among many others. Stark is currently living and working in Los Angeles, CA.
Jen Stark's practice is based on the concepts of replication and infinity, her artwork echoing patterns found in nature. The artist's optically and formally baffling sculptures, animations, and drawings are inspired by plants, outer space, and the theories of colour, math and science. Her creations incorporate a variety of materials which produce optically hypnotic effects not unlike traditional mandalas and sacred objects. Jen Stark has exhibited her works in various galleries and museums across North America and Europe. Stark lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
