Center for Contemporary Art

Santa Fe-based artists Sydney Cooper and Edie Tsong present a new collaboration in the form of an installation and performance series called Forget Your Perfect Offering. This creative space illuminates the struggle to find meaning through object arrangement, ancestor worship, and celebration of everyday life in a ritual setting. This show celebrates the many ways we make meaning out of what we do. Blending religions, traditions, icons, mundane objects and repetitive activities, the artists create moments of introspection and community togetherness while highlighting the hybrid nature of contemporary ritual. Cooper and Tsong invite a spectrum of other local artists to produce performances throughout the run of this unique show.

  For Nobody Taught Me to Cry, Edie Tsong sits in meditation at the altar and at set times chops onions. The performance explores the need to grieve and let go as fall turns to winter, as the world ends and begins anew.

  Jennifer Joseph arranges 40 stargazer lilies to welcome the divine feminine to the planet during this Untitled performance.

  For this piece titled, The Blessed Mother: Full of Grace, Full of Sorrow, Ruth D'Arcy explores her personal response to the grief and suffering of the Blessed Mother through images, poetry and scripture.

  Rose B. Simpson presents Chance during which gallery visitors will be able to cast made and found objects. Simpson will "read" these interactive moments of self, participant, and object.
• Sunday, January 13, 1-4pm
  Using a traditional thigh spindle, Matthew Chase-Daniel will spin yarn from Churro fleece. The wool, the spindle and the spinner are engaged in ancient and ongoing roles relating to creation and maintenance of harmony in the world.

  Tuscany Wenger presents To the Bone, an onsite arrangement, animation and construction of Neo Relics, Soft Science and Lost+Found Superstitions.

  Remaking the World is presented by Sydney Cooper and Lucio Cooper da Silva (8 years old) during which they organize a pile of jumbled lego pieces into some kind of order by color, size, function or set -- whatever Lucio deems right.

    Poet at Home Pt. 1:Miriam Sagan sits in pajamas with a cup of tea, while writing and reading, either silent or aloud, depending on mood and audience.

    The Poet at Home Pt. 2:Joan Logghe types poems onto scraps of cloth as offerings. Edie Tsong then sews these scraps of poem onto people's clothing.
  • 3:30pm
    Paying tribute to cigar rollers in the Caribbean who spent long hours rolling while being read to, Jamie Figueroa rolls xeroxed pages of her journal and packs them in boxes to an audio recording of her journal entries read at random. Relax While I Roll You Another explores the methodical and magical when a writer mines her own notebook.
