Les Origines, the origins, is a show that represents French born artist’s Pascal’s timeless and well-balanced sculptural designs using different varieties of wood. This new collection of works reflects the universal experiences of our daily existence. Repetitive singular actions, moments and thoughts, that initially do not seem important, are really the accumulation of one’s life. Pascal interprets this notion by using wood carved shapes, playing with colors and focusing on the intricacies of his medium. Using iron and bronze oxidation, aluminum and silver waxes and acids, Pascal transforms the service of the wood. His sculptural symbolic successions are reminiscent of great modernist style of both fine art and architecture.
Pascal says, “To give birth to a sculpture or series of sculptures that will offer the opportunity for the viewer to participate in a conscious and subconscious dialogue with it, and in relation to the sculpture results in the powerful experience of inspiration, realization, motivation, self-inquiry and infused creativity. As leaves on a tree, seconds in an hour, stars in the sky or years in a life, this is what I find intriguing.”
Pascal will unveil ten new pieces in his first solo show at GF Contemporary on September 21, 2012 from 5-7pm.
