The University of New Mexico Art Museum is delighted to celebrate contemporary artists in New Mexico by sponsoring the first Contemporary Art Society of New Mexico (CAS) juried exhibition. Jurors Dave Hickey, Libby Lumpkin, and Luanne McKinnon awarded four prizes for excellence in the visual arts to Xuan Chen (1st prize), Kate Carr (2nd prize), Cedra Wood (3rd prize), and, Heidi Pollard (4th prize).
The goal of the CAS prize is to increase the visibility of the arts created by the many outstanding artists living in New Mexico, and for the past 23 years it has played a significant role in the appreciation of contemporary art in our community. CAS was founded in 1988 as a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing interest, understanding, and involvement in contemporary art by encouraging individual collecting, sponsoring educational activities, and supporting New Mexico’s artists and art institutions.
