Photogravure is the perfect marriage of photography and printmaking. Rather than exposing negatives to photographic paper, in gravure the image is exposed to a light-sensitive plate which is then developed and can be printed like an etching. Older than photography, it had its heyday during the days of Ansel Adams. It has been revived in the first days of the 21st century with the availability of plates that can be developed in water rather than using toxic chemicals. New Grounds Print Workshop has trained many artists in this medium. This show will highlight the amazing flexibility of the gravure print by featuring very traditional photographic images to those that look like lithographs and images with qualities of both. Participating artists: Adabel Allen, Aaron Bass, Mary Sundstrom, Jorge Tristani, Rob Thalmann, Denise Weaver-Ross and Jessica Weybright.
