Turner Carroll Gallery is thrilled to present a group exhibition featuring work by Deborah Oropallo, Hung Liu and Squeak Carnwath.
"Heroes" will examine paintings by these three Bay Area powerhouses. We will be presenting Deborah's new body of work: the Super Heroes Series. Continuing with this notion of the transformative power of a uniform, her Super Heroes Series depicts women of affluence portrayed in the classical portrait type with superhuman attributes. Armor or bionic appendages transform the debutantes into ladies ready for battle.
Hung Liu's Red Army Ballet dancers will join the Super Heroes in representing strong women from all over! In this series of work, Hung is depicting dancers from the ballet, "Red Detachment of Women," produced by Mao for President Nixon's visit to China in 1970. These dancers exude heroism, expected by the Chinese for their country. Hung's dynamic use of color further underscores the triumphant dancing.
"Heroes" will also feature oil paintings by Squeak Carnwath. Squeak exemplifies the qualities of a hero: a person of notable and distinguished ability. Her paintings encapsulate the ability to question our reality.
