Miguel Gandert will discuss the importance of the portrait in his work especially in its relationship to telling stories and examining different communities. He will also discuss the large format Polaroid images and use of color as compared to his better known black-and -white images he has created with both large format and 35mm film cameras.
Miguel Gandert earned a master’s in photography from UNM in 1983. He started teaching at UNM not long after graduation. He has been a research associate with the Southwest Hispanic Research Institute, associate director of Documentary Projects at the Center for Regional Studies and been affiliated with UNM departments of American Studies, Chicano Studies, Art and Art History, Media Arts, Architecture, Anthropology and the Latin American and Iberian Institute.
