“Sea of Glass” — Nancy Reyner

Nancy Reyner's illuminated paintings of romantic landscapes appear to dissolve into mist in her new show "Sea of Glass". Reyner uses metal leaf and other reflective materials such as glass beads. Her work combines an antique feel with contemporary vision referencing illuminated manuscripts, ancient Asian screens, new forms of contemporary composition and unusual paint applications. Transparent layers of acrylic in unique ripple effects ride along with old Master glazing techniques to add a glowing seductive quality to gold leaf and other materials. These paintings strive to emulate a vibrational universe while simultaneously becoming color or "energy fields".  Boundaries between form and space melt and dance in rhythmic balance.
