In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and El Dia de los Muertos, J Fine Art Gallery, of Taos, New Mexico is proud to host Frida.Fractured., a two-evening art, poetry, music, and architecture series on Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30, 2010.
Designed and curated by poets Andrea Watson and Veronica Golos, Frida.Fractured. moves beyond the famed iconic images usually associated with Frida Kahlo, asking multicultural artists, poets, musicians, and architects from across the United States to select a “fracture”, or fragment, from Kahlo’s art, life, activism, or suffering and develop a deepened response—or to experiment with new techniques or challenges prompted by the Mexican artist. And, yes, Diego Rivera is fair game too!
Visual Artists: Acclaimed artists Seamus Berkeley, Marie Coburn, Tony D. Cochran, Erin Currier, Gretchen Ewert, Ron Furedi, Malabika Goldar, Carolyn Hinske, Carol Hoy, Suzanne Kanatsiz, Carmen Mares, Anita Rodriguez, Mandy Stapleford, and Faith Welsh will display new works on the Kahlo “fracture”, representing personal styles including portraiture, sculpture, collage, installation art, still life, printmaking, sacred art, etching, mask, fiber art, photography, and jewelry.
Writers: Prize-winning writers from as close as New Mexico and Colorado and as far as California, Oregon, and New York will perform their work. Writers include Karen Cordova, Veronica Golos, Layli Long Soldier, David Perez, Diana Rico, Morgan Songi, Andrea Watson, Orlando White, and readings from Kahlo expert, French poet Pascal Petit. In addition, New York architect William Watson of Castro/Watson Architects will lecture on the avant-garde Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo located in Mexico City.
