Aaron Payne Fine Art’s upcoming show, JoyceMelander-Dayton: NewWorks will feature recent work by the Santa Fe-based artist. The exhibition, which displays a dazzling spectrum of glittering beads, vibrant yarn, and vintage textiles (some inlayed in an array of wooden veneers), will open on July 9, 2010 and run through July 31, 2010. It will then travel to June Kelly Gallery in New York in February 2011. Additional venues are being planned. The showings of “New Works” follows the mid-career retrospective of the artist’s work held in April at The Rymer Gallery in Nashville.

Joyce Melander-Dayton began her career as a painter; her works, representational and hyper-realistic, were juxtaposed with strips of color and repetition. Inspired by folk art, design and textiles, she began to incorporate beadwork, embroidery, and weaving into her art works, eventually leaving the confines of the canvas to create wall and table-top installations and most recently, moving in the direction of sculpture. She has also begun using a new medium as her canvas, wood veneers. These veneers such as silver ash and coffee bubinga burl, green willow and cherry beeswing, continue to resonate exquisite abstract displays of process, detail, pattern and decor.
