Pacific side, snuggled in the heart of the Temescal neighborhood, Smokey’s Tangle is part of Oakland’s Art Murmur, across the street from Slate Gallery and right next door to 4709 Telegraph and the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. It is Smokey’s Tangle aim to become a “neighborhood institution” that keeps people wondering and/or thinking in new ways, much akin to Apple’s Think Different campaign or Taco Bell’s Think Outside the Bun ads from yesteryear. And if not that yet, then we’ll settle for Burma Superstar’s waiting room.
We currently subscribe to the notion that art is a pretty big subject. While we personally value: meaning, quality, vibe, quantity, and so on, we also acknowledge that the seat next to “Gallery Art” sits something bigger, something we have a finger on but can’t fully yet explain. Art can be exercise for the brain and the mind and for conversation. Everything can be art and so can pictures on the wall. We enjoy the traditional and the cutting edge and are just figuring this out as we go.
