Mission

Residencies

Each year Kadist hosts artists, curators and art magazines for residency periods. While traditional residency programs are organized in the style of a retreat, removing the artist from the fray of urban life, the Kadist residency places artists squarely within the heart and history of a major metropolitan area, either Paris or San Francisco, facilitating exchanges with local artists, curators and academics. Each resident is supported in the development of new strains of research, and assisted in the production of a public presentation, most often in the form of an exhibition. Residents are nominated by an international network of arts professionals, artist-residents being selected from those represented in the Kadist collections which span Asia, the US, Europe and South America.

Programs

The Wednesday series and Reading Room (Saturdays), following two three-month-long seasons in the Spring and Fall, the peak periods of cultural activity in San Francisco. The Wednesday series hosts one-night events, including screenings, performances, conversations and installations. The Saturday Reading Room presents a continuously growing collection of more than 100 art magazines from around the world, focusing on those with limited distribution in the US.
