The Stephen Wirtz Gallery, founded by Connie and Stephen Wirtz, has been exhibiting photography and painting since moving to San Francisco in the early 1980’s. By 1990 the gallery had opened their 7,000 square foot gallery space at 49 Geary Street, the corner stone of the gallery destination in San Francisco. The gallery is recognized for advancing the careers of several notable contemporary photographers and painters including Raymond Saunders, Todd Hido, Chris McCaw, and Marc Katano. In addition, the gallery represented such internationally known artists on the West Coast as Arnaldo Pomodoro, Richard Avedon, Magdalene Abakanowicz, and Irving Penn, among others.
In 2015, after twenty-five years as a brick and mortar gallery, Connie Wirtz continues the Stephen Wirtz legacy with Wirtz Art, an online gallery that focuses on the development of emerging as well as accomplished contemporary painters, sculptors and photographers. Wirtz Art features solo exhibitions of recent work and historical surveys of artists represented by Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco.
Available work can be seen on-line through our website and Artsy, as well as by appointment.
