WHAT | Join us for The Working Artists Talk—a fun evening of art and conversation.
WHEN | Friday, January 22, 2010. 6-9pm.
WHERE | ART 94124 GALLERY, 3900B Third Street (at Fairfax).
ART 94124 has been a proud participant in Art in Storefronts, a pilot program launched by the San Francisco Arts Commission and the Mayor's Office. Our video installation, "Working Artist | Artist Working," has been on view at 4414 Third Street since October.
Since the launch event seven 94124 artists can be seen in the storefront on Third Street silently working away in their studios, and the project is intended to bring attention to the artistic process. Now there's a chance to hear them talk!
On Friday, January 22, ART 94124 will host an informal panel discussion featuring the participating artists and creators of "Working Artist | Artist Working." The forum will be an opportunity to hear from the artists and creators. Learn about their artistic processes, their experiences of being working artists, and their impressions of participating in the video project and the pilot installment of Art in Storefronts. It is also a final opportunity to see the accompanying exhibit at ART 94124 GALLERY.
The discussion will be moderated by ART 94124 volunteer Randy Figures. Panel conversation starts at 7pm. At 8:30 we will lead a walk down to the storefront to view the installation.
We hope you can join us for this fun evening of art and conversation!
About Art in Storefronts
Art in Storefronts temporarily places original art installations and murals by San Francisco-based artists into a total of 18 vacant storefront windows and two walls in Central Market, Tenderloin, Bayview, and Lower 24th Street in the Mission. This inventive city-wide project engages local artists and reinvigorates neighborhoods that have been hard-hit by the economic downturn. It also provides artists, who have also been affected by the economy, with a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity in transforming vacant storefronts into free exhibition spaces to garner public recognition for their work. The installations are on view until January 31.
About "Working Artist | Artist Working"
ART 94124's project is a video installation intended to celebrate a unique and often overlooked neighborhood truth—Bayview Hunters Point is a neighborhood with a particularly high density of artists living or working within its boundaries. Shot by ART 94124's Sarah Stangle and Chris Buck, the non-narrative video project features seven BVHP ART 94124 artists working in their studios, drawing attention to the artistic process.
Our storefront installation is at 4414 Third Street (at Kirkwood). The installation is accompanied by an exhibit at the ART 94124 GALLERY that showcases artwork created by the artists featured in the video.
The video installation and exhibit features the following ART 94124 artists who are from varied backgrounds, work in a range of media, each with a unique aesthetic:
Peg Conley | Watercolor
Herb Dang | Glass
Rodney Ewing | Painting, Drawing, and 3D
Juan Fuentes | Linocuts and Silkscreen
Marc Ellen Hamel | Monoprints
Samuel Fleming Lewis | Collage and 2D Assemblage
Ron Moultrie Saunders | Photograms
The exhibit is curated and facilitated by ART 94124 operating team members Randy Figures and Sarah Stangle.
