This exhibition features 15 noted Northern California contemporaries who don’t necessarily label themselves as fiber artists. Provocative pattern-based works incorporating graphic design, multimedia, printmaking, sculpture and installation come to SF State’s Art Department, where textiles courses are in high demand at a time when other California colleges have eliminated programs.
“Depth of Surface” is the largest of five textiles-based shows this spring at SF State. It coincides with “Reinvention,” a national textile and fiber art conference on campus March 19–24.
