> DESCRIPTION

"Alternorthern" showcases emerging Canadian multidisciplinary visual artists, bringing together work that exemplifies currents in the contemporary art of that country. As the show is mounted during a very interesting time in Canada – the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver – many of the stereotypes, symbols, themes, and political workings of the country will be disseminated into the U.S. media, giving Bay Area audiences a framework within and against which to view the work.
