The FIFTY24SF Gallery is proud to host “Darling, We’re Leaving!” a solo exhibition boasting new paintings from internationally acclaimed illustrator and painter, Will Barras. Will Barras’ illustrations and paintings command attention, luring the viewer into their murky, yet inexplicably beautiful depths. Unrestrained brushwork creates the illusion of chaos, while sharply defined line work surfs the tumultuous sea of rich and complex color combinations. Will’s style is so distinctly his own it would be difficult to mistake it. In addition to being a renegade creator, he is a dedicated and tireless artist. Constantly working, Will pushes the limits of how much a man can accomplish in one lifetime. At 18 will left his home in Halesowen (UK) to pursue a Graphic Design degree in Bristol. Three years later, he found himself working in a call centre, doodling endlessly to combat boredom. It was here Will developed his distinct style and thirst for a life beyond the confines of a desk and computer. After a years time at the call center, Will found himself with, “ …a large pile of drawings” and a clear vision of the direction in which he wanted to move. Within two years Will established himself as a successful illustrator and painter. Recognizing Will as a key contributor in a new D.I.Y. movement among illustrators and painters, Ric Blackshaw, founder of the Scrawl Collective, invited Barras to be one of the founding partners for the collective. Uniting Steff Plaetz, Mr. Jago, and Will Barras, the ”Scrawl Collective” agency was officially formed and enjoys continued success to this day. From the beginning of his career up to present day, Will has worked commercially with some of the most influential companies around the world: Rossignol, Carhartt, Oakley, Swatch, Nike, and Burton- to name just a few. He’s been invited to and contributed to Art Basel, Wooster on Spring, Scion’s installation #5, and most recently, Green Day’s – “Art of Rock". In addition to his continuing participation in the Scrawl Collective, Will now divides his time between directing for the animation production company “Bermuda Shorts”, executing successful exhibitions around the world, and painting for pleasure. Never shying away from a chance to push his limits, Will Barras is constantly evolving and exploring new avenues with his work.
