Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Tomas Nakada, October 14th through November 14th.
Nakada, who has exhibited with the gallery for over 15 years, will exhibit a series of ink drawings on paper along with a new painting.
Nakada bases his series of sumi ink drawings on Okinawan textile patterns. After many years of studying Chinese calligraphy, the artist has integrated the movements and technique into his own marks on hand made rice paper. Using found stationary from a Japanese hotel (with printed vertical lines for Japanese script) the artist employs the format as a template for his designs. Integral to his work is this ongoing process of assimilating cultural tradition into contemporary forms.
