Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University announces “From Their Studios,” September 16, 2009 – January 3, 2010, highlighting the creative work of 13 artists who teach studio art at Stanford University. This exhibition features a wide variety of visual art, including film, printmaking, photography, painting, sculpture, and imaginative new media. Admission is free to both the exhibition and the series of talks by 12 of the artists.

“Stanford's art faculty continues a tradition that began with the founding of the university in the late 19th century. Studio artists have flourished at Stanford, and today's faculty is particularly strong,” said Cantor Arts Center's Freidenrich Director Thomas K. Seligman. “Stanford launched a major initiative for the arts in 2006 that aims to revitalize the arts throughout campus. Just one result is that in coming years, the Department of Art and Art History will move to a new building adjacent to the Cantor Arts Center. In recognition of these endeavors, the Center celebrates the ingenuity and diversity of the visual artists who teach at Stanford today.”

The exhibition, curated by Seligman and Cantor Arts Center's Curator for Education Patience Young, reflects not only the excellence of current studio art practice at Stanford but also connotes the exchange of ideas among faculty and students and the quality of the art experience on campus. A collaborative team - including architectural design students Rachel Dwan and Mae Ryan and the exhibition's curators and lead preparator, Ray Madarang - planned the installation of the exhibition.

A series of 12 public lectures by the artists starts September 17 and continues through December 3, presented in the Cantor Arts Center auditorium at 7 p.m. on Thursdays (excluding November 26) and also on Wednesday, October 14.
