Reception: Wednesday, August 5, 2009, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce WORD, a group exhibition with
guest curator, renowned author Danielle Steel. The show is comprised of artists represented by the gallery
including Cara Barer, Patrick Dintino, and Mitch Jones as well as guest artists
Ian Everard, Sofia Harrison, and Wendy Robushi among others.
“WORD. The very sound of it is such a strong
message. There is so much
contained in that single word. So
much you can express with words.
I’ve always been fascinated with paintings that have text in them, and
enamored with both worlds: art and the written word. One is my passion, and the other a lifelong career, and what
could be better than blending the two.
We have combined both elements in this
show, and sought out artwork that includes text in the body of the work. It gives the art yet another
dimension. So we bring you the
beauty of the art…. and the power of the WORD.”
Steel has been a passionate collector of art for many years. She owned and
operated Steel Gallery in San Francisco from 2003-2006, exhibiting contemporary
work by emerging artists. Steel

dedicated to mental illness and has received numerous awards for her work with
the mentally ill. In 2009 she was
honored with the Public Service Award from the Departments of Psychiatry at
Cornell Medical Center and Columbia University College of Physicians and
Surgeons and the American Psychiatric Association. In 2002 she was decorated as
