Hunters Point artists' colony is preparing for its annual Spring Open Studios event and art sale, which will celebrate the 25 year anniversary of one of America’s oldest and largest artists colonies. San Francisco art collectors and enthusiasts are invited to meet, buy art directly from, and tour the studios of over 150 artists working in the decommissioned naval base at Hunters Point.
Hunters Point Spring Open Studios will be held at two locations. Recently, several welders, sculptors, and metal artists previously working at Hunters Point moved to a new location at Islais Creek. Many of these artists, including Jacques Terzian, founder of the Point, will be participating in Open Studios.
“The Open Studio at Hunters Point Shipyard is the very best and most representative Open Studio in San Francisco. You’ve got to see it to believe the great art that’s being created out here.” – Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Hunters Point resident artists for over 20 years.
This May 150 artists will participate in Spring Open Studios. A preview reception and studio party crawl will be held at the Shipyard and Islais Creek on Friday night, May 1. Several of the participating artists will host individual parties in their studios
