The show title and work created for this exhibit run together. The artist curator Mona Hatoum expressed it best when she declared: “The best art is that which complicates things for you by exposing impossible contradictions, which makes you question your assumptions about the world so that you walk away with more question than answers.”
The exhibition at Michael Rosenthal sets out to explore Hautoum’s statement by presenting an array of work in different forms, conceived by a divergent group of artists that explores the idea or random relationships and mixed metaphors.
The compulsive side of the exhibition sets out to let chance and circumstance present itself in the form of a 4” x 4” painting as multiplied by 101 artists working independently to create the whole of the installation. The installation will present hundreds of 4 x 4 paintings without attribution. The artist’s name will be revealed after the purchase ($50) of a painting. The works will be incorporated into a wall painting by Terry Hoff.
