UC Berkeley artists Mickey Kay, Dominic Nguyen, and David Whitaker will present recent work in response to barriers ranging from lingual miscommunications to concrete walls. The show, titled Barriers, will be on display in the Worth Ryder Gallery in Kroeber Hall on the UC Berkeley Campus from March 16th to March 20th. The opening reception will be held on Monday, March 16th from 4-7pm.
Barriers includes sculpture, print, video, installation, mixed media, and ceramic pieces that represent a five-month study on the part of the three artists.
The word barrier brings to mind ideas ranging from lingual misunderstandings to concrete walls. Barriers are a force with which everyone grapples. Part of life is that which one cannot understand or that to which one is barred access. If art's purpose is to provide a new way of seeing, then barriers seem an ideal target for artistic investigation.
The work in Barriers is three artists' response to a study of its title. Come see their way of seeing and take something home for yourself.
