> DESCRIPTION

The Brothers Quay have been making animated films since 1979. Their 1986 film Street of Crocodiles is based on the 1934 book of the same title by Polish author and artist Bruno Schultz. A talk will be given with the screening by Dr. Claire Daigle and will explore the Quay's film in relation to the Schultz book focusing closely on elements of Eastern European mysticism.

Claire Daigle is a writer and critic whose reviews have appeared frequently in New Art Examiner, Art Papers, and Sculpture. Daigle holds a Ph.D. in art history from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. In 2004 she completed her dissertation (received with distinction), Reading Barthes/Writing Twombly, and is now preparing portions of the text for publication. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at the San Francisco Art Institute.
