> DESCRIPTION

Togonon Gallery is pleased to present Allen Guilmette in his first solo exhibition at Togonon Gallery. The study of science - archaeology and geology - is the foundation of Allen Guilmette's current obsession with elegant and sophisticated systems and structures. In "Bending the Rule" Guilmette explores selected fundamentals and principles associated with man's ability to comprehend visual, mathematical or situational perceptions: What happens (visually and systematically) when the fundamental principles of the Golden Rule of Scaling are changed by imposing deviations based on the original?  The imposition of three new fundamentals produces a logical sequence of 24 compositions.  These compositions, executed as elegant drawings on paper, cast on resin will be the highlight of the show.

Allen Guilmette graduated with a BFA from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. The Hartford Art School was an incubator for the leaders of minimal and conceptual art often visited by Carl Andre, Steve Reich and Vito Acconci.  Guilmette was an understudy of Jim McWilliams, a luminary in the Fluxus movement.  Guilmette is also an active participant of InSite, a San Diego based bi-national exhibition exploring cultural contrasts between Mexico and the United States.

Allen Guilmette lives and works in San Diego.
