SOME WORD PICTURES

A collaborative installation & exhibition by

BILL DANIEL
~ and ~
SANTIAGO MOSTYN

Featuring:
Photographs, written word, and video projections from the artists’ river, road, and freight train travels. The exhibition serves as an examination of the use, re-use, and re-presentation of images relating to story-telling. And a focusing in on how the act of story-telling relates to traditions and how traditions become folklore, binding the then and now.

Artist Info:
American road dog and hobo-archivist Bill Daniel is most widely known for his highly acclaimed documentary film Who's Bozo Texino? and most recently, the Bozo Texino companion book - Mostly True. Some Word Pics, pairs up Daniel with like-minded New York based train hopping photographer, accomplice of the Polaroid Kidd, and recent TV Books author Santiago Mostyn.  The combination of these two like-minded artists results in a visual barrage of soon-to-be-iconic imagery and ephemera of transient America.

“A publisher in the United States was doing a series for travelers, and asked me to do something about the colony [of Trinidad & Tobago]. I thought it would be a simple labor: a little local history, some personal memories, some word pictures.
I had thought, with a strange kind of innocence, that in our world all knowledge was available, that all history was stored somewhere and could be retrieved according to need. I found now that there was no local history to consult.”

- from V.S. Naipaul’s Reading & Writing: A Personal Account
