Queen & Country,

a show of paintings by Richard Kramer, Dickson Schneider, and Raymond Wong, opens January16 at Autobody Fine Art, 1517 Park Street, Alameda, CA 94501. All of these artists are doing figurative work dealing with the social milieu of the late-twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Suburbia, East Asia, Fashion, and the Art World, are the objects of these exuberant paintings. The subject is more elusive. Humor is found in much of the work, but so is an element of tragedy as well as the social rituals we embrace, often without reflection. These paintings are not the usual ‘preaching to the choir' social/political messages found in contemporary art. The works relate to embedded beliefs and propoganda found everywhere. This work asks us to ponder ourselves, our assumptions, and our values.
