OFF-SITE EVENT by Carrie Hott and Laura Steenberge
Friday, February 28, 2014, 7:00 – 9:00 PM

Note: Attendance is extremely limited and FREE. Sign up by February 16, 2014 by emailing programs@soex.org. Detailed transportation information will be provided upon RSVP. Please note, the performance will involve approximately 10 minutes of walking to the site on uneven terrain.

In conjunction with White Hot Lamp Black, visual artist Carrie Hott and upright bassist Laura Steenberge lead an investigation into echolocation. Research by each artist converges around the lightless navigation of bats and whales. In an off-site, undisclosed location, the two will explore the practice of sounding and low frequency vibration. Together, we will take a walk in a dark cave, listen to improvised sound, consider deep ocean spaces and the behavior of flying and swimming mammals and discover what a fathom is. Please dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

This event is part of White Hot Lamp Black, on view February 7 – March 8, 2014 at Southern Exposure.
