This piece, typical of my practice, attempts to embody themes of absence and presence through the exploration of transformative states of materiality. Reclaimed and recycled materials make up the principle structure and though not completely important that their origin is identifiable, through their transformation, perhaps an alternate notion is gestured. The metaphorical nature of the piece is entirely intentional, and the subsequent expiration of the balloons and LED’s whilst the PEX tubing armature survives, it is hoped the viewer will draw their own philosophical connections.
In this context, themes of mortality, flexible structures, cellular structures, and meteorology among a few, are part of the inherent dialogue. Furthermore, this piece is a continuation of an ongoing investigation intended to distill a meaning of ecology that is relevant to cultural identity as well as my own.
Experiencing the piece is not experiencing it’s entrance to the world; rather it is to experience its exit.
