"The camera is not a device but a situation. Where light slips into dark, a picture is seen. These specters fill the air around us. We walk into to them, wear them, change them.”

–Chris Fraser

Kala Art Institute is thrilled to announce a special performance by Bay Area artist and 2012-2013 Kala Fellow Chris Fraser. Kala’s Fellowship Program includes an annual series of public programs presented by current Fellows during their studio residencies. The talk is free of charge and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

*PLEASE NOTE: Seating is limited. Performance begins promptly at 7:30pm.

Chris Fraser is a BayArea artist whose immersive installations and performances approach a direct experience of our optical environment. He received his BA in history from the University of California, Davis and his MFA in studio art from Mills College. Chris is a recipient of the Jay DeFeo Prize, and was awarded a graduate fellowship at the Headlands Center for the Arts. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Disjecta in Portland, the Center for Contemporary Art in Sacramento, and Highlight Gallery in San Francisco. Chris participated in Bay Area Now 6 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and will be featured in Personal Structures at the Palazzo Bembo as part of the 55th Venice Biennale.
