OAKLAND CA February 1, 2013 - March, 16 2013 TRANSMISSION GALLERY, a new contemporary art gallery, announces plans for their fourth exhibition since opening Aug.2012. The new exhibit, Layers, opens Friday February 1, 2013 from 6-9pm. All are welcome to attend the opening reception.

Transmission Gallery presents Layers, an exhibition organized by Sacramento-based artist/curator Robert Ray.  Ray is the exhibition coordinator for Gallery21ten, Loft and Red Dot galleries. His work is represented at b. sakata garo, and he was recently included in the exhibition Poetics of Disposability at the Triton Museum, Santa Clara.

Past curatorial projects include Abstract (2000-2010) and Human Voices, at the Sacramento Temporary Contemporary and Gallery21ten.

The exhibition Layers showcases the art of twenty-five artists from the northern California region (bay area, central valley, foothill) who utilize the process of layering, and/or depict layered imagery, in a variety of mixed-media works, paintings, drawings, collage and sculpture.

Layers are a constant reality in the human narrative; putting on layers to protect, or conceal.  We peel back layers to reveal what’s on the inside, or push through to get to the other side.  Some of the artists in this exhibition explore these notions, while others “document” visual experiences.  The artistic interpretations are diverse; from the surreal portrayal of a woman adorned with fish scales, to the push-and-pull of paint on surface as well as an [Arman] inspired lamp.  Artists included in this exhibition are Laurelin Gilmore, Maren Conrad, Micah Crandall-Bear, Mark Eanes, Tina Pressler, Lisa Neal, Tesia Blackburn, Carol Dalton, Mike Kendall, Kristi Hughes, Lou Bermingham, Gwyn Stramler, Meech Miyagi, Natana Rose, Julie Diane, Laura Caron, Susanne Ventura, Anne Bradley, Raphael Delgado, James Mullen, Susan Tonkin Riegel, James Gasowski, Bud Gordon, Richard Downs, Joseph Bellacera and Joyce Kohl.
