At this moment of deep antagonism towards the banking industry, The Bank Heist Proposal Contest revisits the romantic representation of bank robbers in relation to current economic and social crises, by inviting the public to develop proposals for imaginary bank robberies. Proposals for bank heists are due at Southern Exposure on January 31, at high noon.
All Bank Heist Proposals received will be on display through March 9, 2013. This installation is part two of a longer term project that began in October 2012 with a residency and series of events as a part of Making a Scene, and will culminate on March 1, when all of the proposals will be judged based on conceptual vision, presentation, feasibility, and creativity in a public ceremony and celebration at Southern Exposure. The jury includes an expert on banking security, author and former bank robber Joe Loya, and representatives from the Center for Tactical Magic and Southern Exposure.
