Upcoming exhibition will feature nail art and rings created by 16 young female artists who are reimagining personal adornment.

In recent years nail artists have elevated fingernails to sites for avant-garde designs. Fostered by an energetic female-powered blog community with a bold entrepreneurial ethic, this experimental scene merges high fashion, street style and fine art all on the surface of the fingernail. The dynamic innovations of nail art parallel the one-of-a-kind wearable art that is being created by emerging jewelers. Incorporating sculptural techniques, found objects, and unorthodox materials these jewelers are also inventing new forms of personal ornament.

Focusing on the hand as a point of creative contact, this exhibition fosters creative exchange between these two groups. The co-curators invited a geographically and artistically diverse group of nail artists and jewelers to create new work based on each others designs. Hand Jobs will feature the unique sets of nail tips and rings that result from these collaborations. The exhibition will provide a unique platform for the display of these art objects, which are rarely shown in a gallery setting. 24k Studios is thrilled to share the exhibition with the San Francisco community, which has a long and continued history of supporting independent female makers.

Participating Nail Artists: Astrowifey, Britney Tokyo, Haus of Lacquer, The Illustrated Nail, Fleury Rose, Nail Jerks, Nail Swag, and NancyMc.

Participating Jewelers: Angie Crabtree, Dha Mee Hahn, Jane Herro, Laura Jaklitsch, Whittney Klann, Leah Meleski, Yuri Tozuka, Elizabeth Woll.

San Jose-based nail artist Nail Jerks and Los Angeles-based nail artist Nail Swag will be doing nails at the opening!

Following the reception, Selected works will be installed in the storefront windows facing 24th Street from January 26-February 17. Personal viewings can be scheduled by appointment.

Located in the Mission District of San Francisco, 24k Studios is an artist-run venue for art exhibitions, film screenings, and creative exchange. The studios also include sculpture and metalworking facilities. Co-Founders Brooke Valentine, Elizabeth Woll and Lidija Ristic are all graduates of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston and work within the arts communities of San Francisco and Oakland. They create their own work year-round in the studio and invite friends and fellow artists to participate through exhibitions and collaborations. Hand Jobs was co-curated by 24k Studios co-founder and participating jeweler Elizabeth Woll and Hallie Scott, a Brooklyn-based art historian and educator.
