Narangkar Glover and Gwen Manfrin

November 14 – December 21, 2012

Opening Reception: Wednesday, November 14, 2012 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition featuring new work by Narangkar Glover and Gwen Manfrin, with an opening reception held on Wednesday, November 14 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

“My paintings are autobiographical fragments framed within the psychological space of a landscape.”                                                                        –Narangkar Glover

Based on an introspective investigation of her life, Narangkar Glover’s paintings begin with a snapshot taken from her early childhood memories.  The places, events, people, and incidents from these memories become physical through the process of painting.  As Glover paints layer upon layer, these histories are surfaced over, though never completely wiped away.

“My interest lies in the exploration of the figure, particularly in the context of isolation, longing and identity.”                                                              –Gwen Manfrin

Gwen Manfrin is interested in portraying a chance encounter with an individual, one that projects a tension between the inner self and one’s outward appearance. Manfrin finds this social dislocation particularly intriguing in the adolescent world, which is so painfully full of angst in the desire to belong.
