Kamil Dawson is a prolific Bay Area painter and a CCA MFA candidate.
Each series of her paintings uniquely creates its own 'realm of
reality', often combining depictions of historic iconography with
elements of contemporary science and technology.
In Graven Images Dawson seeks a new female icon all her own. The
figures in the series are inspired by Medieval reliquary statues of
saints. They are drawn embracing abstract splashes of flowing paint,
seen by Dawson as embodying the raw power of creative energy. The
results are stunning painted images of hybrid females crossing
boundaries of gender and the cultural representations of feminine power
within art history and throughout visual culture.
