Modern Eden is proud to present “The Altar Project”an international group exhibition featuring works inspired by historical altars, reliquaries, and shrines with a modern twist. This show will feature dimensional work with sculptural elements.
Technology and Science have been replacing older entrenched ideas of religion and as our society changes our icons of worship change as well.
“The Altar Project” takes a traditional altar shaped archway with an object, or subject of worship as the centerpiece. This can be something common in the modern world, historically significant or have a personal meaning. Each artist’s particular piece will be their own altar or reliquary, an effigy or an object of intention; A shrine to the gods of the modern age or an altar of worship to ones own personal deities or demons.
Featuring dimensional works from Sheri DeBow, Archer Dougherty, James Marc, Erika Sanada, Tammi Otis, Calvin Ma, Cayetano G. Valenzuela, Sara Sanz, Derrick Scocchera, Debra Gardner Abarca, James Garcia, Sherry DeLorme, Kim Larson, Marisa Aragón Ware, Angela Casserly, and Helen Wilson.
The opening reception for "The Altar Project" will be held at Modern Eden on Saturday, September 15th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will be on display through October 21, 2012 and is free and open to the public. Complimentary drinks will be served by Rolling Rock and Three Wishes.
