Chandler Fine Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of recent work by Alexis K. Manheim.
Ms Manheim's influences range from traditional sumi-e painting to ancient alchemy illustrations. She is rarely content with pure abstraction and habitually infuses her work with elements of ancient symbology and iconography that give the viewer something to grasp on to as well as a hint of what lies beneath.
Jonathan Curiel in the SF Weekly wrote "Looking at an Alexis Manheim painting, you want to jump into the canvas. You want to experience the dreamlike states she paints with so much verve."
Ms Manheim was born in Los Angeles, Calif. She received her BA in Art and International Relations from Stanford University. Her work has been exhibited widely in the United States and published in Studio Visit Magazine and the Manifest International Drawing Annual.
She lives with her husband and daughter in Moss Beach, Calif.
