> DESCRIPTION

Closing reception: Celebrate the residency of Tamar Assaf with light refreshments and live music.

In a replica of her own studio, Tamar Assaf invites visitors to engage in a hands-on activity to experience her creative process of research, preparation, creation and presentation of artwork.

Assaf's artwork is a subtle social and ecological commentary on the environment, raising awareness of human influence on animals in the wild and how entire ecosystems function as a delicate balance of interdependencies. With a close-up, cropped approach, minimizing background, Assaf uses palette knives to apply impasto onto wood panels or canvas.  During her residency, Assaf will create new paintings of non-native aquatic species that are changing the San Francisco Bay ecosystem.
