Gallery Paule Anglim

Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce cycle, an exhibition of new works by David Hannah.

In cycle, the artist will present a series of mixed media paintings, ink on plastic and oil on linen. Where recent bodies of work have focused on thematic imagery with reference to mythology or recent history, Hannah's new work distills his complex imagery into more abstracted compositions suggestive of arboreal forms and branching paths staged within and among articulating boundaries.

The exhibition is the artist's eighth solo exhibition at the gallery, where he first showed in 1979. His new works make allusions to earlier bodies of works, in particular the holzwege (woodpaths), as they ruminate on related imagery through explorations of process and vision.

David Hannah is the Paul L. and Phyllis Wattis Professor of Art, Emeritus, at Stanford University where he taught since 1991. Prior, 1981-91, he taught at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and 1968-1981 at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Engelhardt Foundation, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Boston.
