> DESCRIPTION

Now in its third year, THIS IS WHAT I WANT continues to redefine relationships between intimacy and performance by presenting newly commissioned work that brings audiences thrillingly close to the locus of queer desire.

San Francisco-based artists participating in the festival include singer-songwriter DavEnd, Trannyshack Star Search 2012 winner Dia Dear, performance artist and drag queen Mica Sigourney (VivvyAnne ForeverMORE), and mixed-media artist Sara Kraft. Los Angeles based artists Mabel Negrete, Nick Duran/Jmy James Kidd, Rafael Esparza and Taisha Paggett will also debut new work.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT 2012 is an annual performance festival produced by queer performance incubator THEOFFCENTER and presented in conjunction with SOMArts Cultural Center, Center for Sex and Culture and the Queer Cultural Center. A centerpiece of the National Queer Arts Festival, the festival was founded by 2011 Goldie recipient Jesse Hewit. Under the artistic direction of Tessa Wills, supported by festival producer and director of THEOFFCENTER Ernesto Sopprani, it has expanded its vision to include a one-day symposium and participatory experience at Center for Sex and Culture. Anna Martine Whitehead, Doran George, Jesse Hewit, Tessa Wills and Rachael Dichter make up the 2012 curatorial team. Additional information can be found at www.whatiwantfestival.com.

When: June 26–29, 8pm, doors at 7:30pm
