Chandler Fine Art is pleased to present, "Las Nubes," an exhibition of new work by Percy Cannon. Las Nubes (the clouds) is a series of paintings created in the artist's studio in Crockett, Calif.
The technique, poured acrylic on canvas, is a difficult process to master. When done well the work rewards you with an ethereal, effortlessness that belies their complexity.
These paintings are elusive both in content and process. Using a technique (poured acrylic), that is simple but difficult to control to create minimal compositions of saturated color seems a contradiction yet this work seems to evoke a quiet dignity. Obvious references to landscape are blurred by hazy areas of color yet these paintings are clearly based in the natural world.
Mr Cannon was born in Kansas but grew up primarily in Peru and Argentina. He returned to the United States to study at the Rhode Island School of Design where he completed his BFA in painting. He received his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2010. His work has been included in several group exhibitions in San Francisco. This is his first solo exhibition.
Mr Cannon lives with his wife and daughter in Martinez, Calif.
