Bite, chew, smell and savor as artists explore the meaning of food!
Familiar foods like frosted cookies, sundaes and popsicles will go
beyond their usual sugar coma to express desire, sex, domestic
comforts, and other themes in the TASTE 2008 Exhibition at Root
Division in April.
The 18 artists in the exhibition use the subject matter of food and
many different mediums, both edible and not, to express the palatable,
playful, and political. These artists ask us to pay attention to the
food we eat and where it comes from, how we consume food as a culture,
and the fantasies or desires associated with food.
Sarah Klein, in addition to being a curator, makes hand-drawn
stop-motion animated and live-action videos, teaches cooking classes,
and created a performance art series called the Bread Project. Her new
work recently screened at the San Francisco Bay Area Children's
Festival and the Exploratorium.
