MacArthur B Arthur is pleased to announce Eb/N0, a group show featuring work by Zarouhie Abdalian, Chris Duncan, Justin Hurty, Suzy Poling, Joseph Rosenzweig, and Gareth Spor.
Noise is the indefinable, the unquantifiable. It manifests itself sonically as clangs, screeches, clamor – sound that is without clear tonal information, and visually in the out of focus, the indeterminate image. This can take the form of a distorted/over-amplified guitar, the snowy static of a television screen or a cloud of dust. This exhibition explores noise not simply as cacophony, but as a visual and aural representation of both signal and noise. The title, Eb/N0 – the energy per bit to noise power density ratio – connotes information and content in relation to the blurring/entropic tendency of transmission. The works in the show examines the frenetic and the unexpected in the liminal space of the unknown and uncertain.
